20 Ogo MCP RD06:CKJ DUO TARGET TEAM AWARDS
Teammates, Mohd Affendi Rosli and Ahmad Afif Amran are starting to believe they can help PETRONAS Yamaha-CKJ clinch the CP130 team awards by the end of the season as they enter the second half of the 2014 PETRONAS AAM Malaysian Cub Prix Championship at Stadium Kluang, Johor this weekend.
The factory-backed outfit is in a good position to secure the team award with both riders consistently finishing the first five races this season among top-10.
Despite his rookie status, Afif has secured a victory, two third place podiums and two eighth place finishes putting him second overall in the rider standings with 73 points, 27 points adrift championship leader, Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi with 100 points.
Seasoned contender, Affendi on the other hand is placed fourth overall with 63 points and has yet to finish a race below sixth.
Bringing their tally to 136 points, PETRONAS Yamaha CKJ now leads the team standings six points ahead of Givi Honda Yuzy Racing (Mohd Zaqhwan Zaidi and Sasitharen Sukumaran).
“We are in a strong position to win the team award but the gap is too small for us to feel comfortable yet. The other teams need to just finish ahead of us and that will wipe out the entire deficit. Hence it is very important for the both of us to finish in the top five this weekend to maintain the lead,” said Affendi.
Afif echoed his teammate and said, “If we keep scoring points, we should be able to keep our nose in front of Yuzy Racing and SCK. It won’t be easy because they have very fast riders and powerful machines but I am optimistic CKJ is just as competitive. All we need to do is to keep working hard and never give up and hopefully we can take the title fight to the very last round.”
