HONG LEONG YAMAHA MOTOR LAUNCHES TECHNICIAN APPRENTICESHIP PROGRAMME (TAP)
Collaborating with various partners, HLYM’s new CSR initiative hopes to develop skilled technicians who are industry and work-ready through a 6-month on-the-job training programme.
SHAH ALAM, 22 October 2018 – Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn Bhd (HLYM) today has launched the Technician Apprenticeship Programme (TAP or the Programme), a new initiative programme under its Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) pillar. The new programme, a collaboration between Hong Leong Yamaha Motor, INPENS International College (INPENS) and Malaysia Motorcycle and Scooter Dealers Association (MMSDA) is a joint effort to share our common resources with the aim to bridge the skill gap between the technical training institute and the motorcycle industry.
The launch was officiated by the Yang Berhormat Pengerusi Jawatankuasa Tetap Pemberdayaan dan Pembangunan Sosio Ekonomi dan Kerajaan Prihatin, Tuan Ganabatirau A/L Veraman, on behalf of Yang Amat Berhormat Dato’ Menteri Besar Selangor, Tuan Amirudin bin Shari and was witnessed by Dato’ Jim Khor, Managing Director of Hong Leong Yamaha Motor; Mr Wee Hong, Chairman of Malaysia Motorcycle and Scooter Dealers Association (MMSDA) and Dato Ahmad Suaidi Abdul Rahim, Timbalan Setiausaha Kerajaan (Pembangunan).
Through TAP, HLYM aims to develop a pool of skilled technicians as well as enabling seamless after-sales service customer journey for Yamaha Authorised Dealers. The apprenticeship programme is a 6-month on-the-job training programme and is opened to INPENS students who has completed “Sijil Kemahiran Malaysia” (SKM) Level 2. Upon completion, the students will be awarded with a certificate from Hong Leong Yamaha Motor Sdn Bhd and offered an employment opportunity at any of the nationwide Yamaha Authorised Dealers.
Dato’ Jim Khor said, “Our customers are increasingly more savvy about their needs and this will definitely change their expectations on our products and services. With the introduction of the programme, we want to equip the motorcycles industry with qualified technicians who are able to meet this change of expectations.”
Anis Syahmi Mohamad Sowarna is one of the eight students from INPENS International College who is qualified for the first batch of TAP programme. She will be going through her structured on-the-job training with Hong Leong Yamaha Motor for the next six months. “I am very happy to be selected for this programme. The 6-month Technician Apprenticeship Programme will give me the opportunity to experience and learn the right skills with Motorsport
Department, Spare Parts Department, Assembly Department and Service Department. It will definitely help me in upscaling my job skill competencies and also to boost my personal development,” said Anis.
