30 Aug ARRC ROUND 4:PRACTICE REPORT
SuperSports 600cc
The first day of Round 4 PETRONAS Asia Road Racing Championship did not go as expected for Hong Leong Yamaha backed teams as rain dampened both SuperSports 600cc and Underbone 115cc opening practices at the Suzuka International Circuit in Japan today.
In the SuperSports 600cc category, PETRONAS Hong Leong Yamaha’s Mohd Zamri Baba clocked his best lap for the day in FP1, 2’17.315s, 10th fastest while local wildcard, Shinichi Nakatomi trumped the 45-minute session with 2’14.784s.
Zamri was hoping to make further improvements in the afternoon practice (FP2) but a wet track slowed the entire field down tremendously.
Makoto Inagaki emerged quickest in the wet with 2:20.124 followed by Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman, Peerawat Wongthananon and Dimas Ekky Pratama.
Underbone 115cc
In contrast, PETRONAS Hong Leong Yamaha’s Ahmad Afif Amran did relatively well in the Underbone 115cc practice session.
Going out on track using the newly launched Dunlop KR410, a tyre specially developed for the unique sport of Underbone racing, Afif set the benchmark for day with 1’03.905s.
Similar to the SuperSports 600cc, FP2 did not bring about any improvements in time as it was interrupted by a heavy rainfall midway.
Fastest rider in the second session was Adib Rosley from team Outdo Koyoko Motul Yamaha YY Pang with 01:04.186s.
