SUPERSPORTS 600CC PETRONAS Hong Leong Yamaha’s Mohd Zamri Baba gave SuperSports 600cc title candidate, Azlan Shah Kamaruzaman a run for his money when he put on a dazzling performance in the qualifying sessions at the Losail Circuit for the final round of the 2013 PETRONAS Asia Road Racing Championship on Friday.
Zamri was seen posting extremely competitive lap times, forcing his long time friend and foe to new limits.
Eventually, Azlan got the upper hand as he secured pole position having recorded another new lap record at 2’05.379s while Zamri earned second grid with 2’05.580s.
Locking out front row was replacement rider, Broc Parkes with 2’05.781s while Katsuaki Fujiwara is set to start Saturday’s race from second row.
“We were very competitive today and the team was really pleased. Of course, Azlan had the final say but its alright because in the end we did our best. Also, today’s lap time indicates that we have the pace to fight for the podium tomorrow,” said Zamri.
UNDERBONE 115CC
Meanwhile, Ahmad Afif Amran looks set for his final push when he landed a second row start in the Underbone 115cc qualifying sessions.
The PETRONAS Hong Leong Yamaha will start fifth on the grid having clocked his best lap at 2’37.459s in between Mohd Amirul Ariff Musa and Kazuki Masaki.
Front row was occupied by Gupita Kresna followed by Hadi Wijaya and Norizman Ismail.
